If you want to transfer a domain from one domain name registrar to another, you will have to go through a couple of safety procedures. One of them is obtaining a unique EPP authorization code from the current domain name registrar – on the condition that you are the domain registrant, since the code is sent to the domain owner’s email and no one else can see it. You need to give this code to the new registrar company, or else they will not be able to initiate the transfer procedure. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may include numbers or special characters such as commas or dots, which can be easily mistyped, so make sure you copy/paste the right code. As an extra safety measure, the transfer code for a domain name may be altered on a regular basis. Some registrar companies refer to this code as a domain secret, a domain password or an Auth key as well.
